Cyprus announced on Tuesday it has established diplomatic relations with Montenegro. Andreas Mavroyiannis, permanent representative of Cyprus to the United Nations, and his Montenegrin counterpart Nebojsa Kaludjerovic have signed a document for the conclusion of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the semi-official Cyprus News Agency reported from the UN.
The two ambassadors were satisfied that Cyprus and Montenegro would be concluding diplomatic relations and beginning the process of strengthening friendly relations between the two countries.
The two governments wish to work together to develop and strengthen bilateral friendship and cooperation in the political, economic, social and humanitarian fields, based on the principles of international law and the UN Charter, said a joint press release following the signing ceremony.
Montenegro became the 192nd member of the UN on June 28, 2006, following a resolution by the U.N. General Assembly. |
