A new category of buyers is emerging in the world of real estate, with people beginning to combine investment with an outdoor and adventurous lifestyle.
According to the Times, these buyers have been dubbed the "golden lifers" and they are known for building up a worldwide property portfolio that allows them to travel the world as they please.
Nick Byrne, of Waterside Properties, told the Times that seafront developments in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean are among the most poplar choices.
"The traditional move to a sunny spot beside a Costa golf course is being replaced with a portfolio of properties around the globe. Other factors are fears of a UK price crash, having affluent offspring in their early thirties, and new technology that allows greater freedom to run a business," he added.
It is reported that if money were no object, 22 per cent of Britons would prefer to retire abroad and the golden globetrotters seem to be taking this idea to the extreme.
While the Caribbean is growing in popularity all the time, it seems that Spain is still the favourite destination, with France, Italy, Florida and Portugal also attracting huge amounts of interest.
The Times reports that Cape Verde is another fashionable option with the golden lifers, while Bansko in Bulgaria also gets a mention. |
